Why pasture-raised chickens and eggs?
Discover the difference real freedom makes for our chickens and the incredible benefits it brings to your table. At Healthy Meaties, we believe in nature's way.

Freedom for our flock
At Healthy Meaties, we understand that freedom is everything, not just for us but for all of God's creatures. Just like a dog's joy in a walk, chickens thrive when they can express their natural behaviors. Chicks intuitively peck the ground and scratch for bugs, seeds, and weeds from the moment they hatch. This makes our decision to allow our chickens the freedom to roam fields and forests a natural choice. We simply let them do what they do best, ensuring they lead happy and healthy lives.

Better health, better taste
Input equals output. Unlike humans, chickens possess the ability to self-regulate their diet. Given adequate resources and a variety of foraging spaces, they naturally seek a complete nutritional profile. This translates directly to eggs and meat with a superior nutritional content for our customers! Factory farms often feed a commercial mix of corn and soy with chemical additives, attempting to mimic balanced nutrition. Studies show that pasture-raised meat and eggs have higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins A and E. While we do provide our birds with culinary-grade herbs and grains as added support, they visit these feeders minimally during summer, indicating the land sustains them. They rely on feed more in winter, but it's food even you could eat! You wouldn't snack on commercial chicken feed, would you? The bottom line is, healthier just tastes better!

Understanding "pasture-raised"
Government and big agriculture love their "buzzwords" and apply legal definitions to everything. For a commercial farm to use the term "free-range," they only need to allow limited outdoor access, often just two square feet per bird—barely enough room to turn around. There's no government control over the time spent outdoors or the quality of that environment, which is often a dirt lot packed with 10,000 birds. The same applies to "pasture-raised," which suggests 108 square feet per bird. However, the quality of that environment is frequently not what we consider a true pasture. When it comes to the quality of life offered by Healthy Meaties, you don't have to take our word for it. Visitors are always welcome! In fact, we prefer for you to see where your food comes from. Just call or text 219-680-6657 when you're on your way so I can make sure the gate is open!
